The fireplace has always played a leading role in the houses, that place of the house where to gather the family, around which to warm up in a welcoming atmosphere, between the crackling of wood and the smell that spreads, between flames that burn and illuminate the environment.

Its function over time has not changed, but today there are many alternatives to the classic wood-burning fireplace. With the advent of new technologies and the study of new materials, it is now possible to have the same effect in any environment of the house, thanks to the bioethanol fireplaces, ecological, facili easy to use and install.

In this article, Italian Design Outlet wants to explain to you what bioethanol fireplaces are, how they work, how they feed, how much they cost and what their main advantages are.

What is the bioethanol fireplace and how it works

Unlike the more common wood-burning fireplace, the bioethanol fireplace does not require invasive masonry works or external electrical connections, installation is particularly simple, no smoking rods are needed and takes up little space. You won't have to worry about fumes, ash, wood supply. They are easy to use and keep on: there are no stumps to use or ash to clean, nor the fear of embers that may fall outside the fireplace.

A bioethanol fireplace, nothing more than a small closed fireplace that has a container specially designed for liquid fuel, precisely bioethanol, and contains – almost always – a porous stone orstones. With a very normal lighter, this is turned on and gradually the liquid burns, making a flame appear inside the fireplace. Stone or stones, on the other hand, perform a dualfunction: and if porous, they absorb bioethanol, and create a kind of obstacle between the flame and the tank containing the liquid, preventing them from coming into contact.
The flame is visible and this helps to generate that atmosphere typical of the classic fireplace, useful for heating a portion of the house, a small home environment or to release that typical pleasant warmth. It can be indoor or outdoor, wall or ground, recessed or support, suspended or table; the market currently offers many ideal solutions to satisfy the most diverse needs.

What is Bioethanol

Bioethanol is an alcohol extracted from the fermentation of biomass, thatis, foods with a high concentration of sugars, such as cereals, sugar cane, sugar crops, starches and pomacea. It is a sustainable fuel, sostenibile it respects the environment, itdoes not emit toxic fumes and it is easy to find on the market. There are different types of bioethanol, some with a better yield than the others. Combustion emits small amounts of water vapor and carbon dioxide. No stains or soot on the walls and ceilings. The flame of bio ethanol is completely clean.

Unlike wood, bioethanol fireplaces do not emit any harmful or carcinogenic smoke when in operation. This allows, even those who live in an apartment in a condominium, not to give up the warmth and atmosphere of the hearth.

How much heat does a bioethanol fireplace produce

An important premise must be made: if your intention is to replace a traditional fireplace with a bioethanolfireplace, this is practically impossible. If the first is a real useful tool for heating the house, the second is more of a piece of furniture, since the amount of heat emitted is less than that of a normal fireplace. Thenecessary fuel has a lower calorific value than others, such as gasoline, but can be used without problems to heat an environment of 20-30 square meters,if the size of the fireplace islarger. When compared to a stove, for example, the latter generates up to a maximum of 9 kW of heating power, a fireplace can reach no more than 4-5 kW.

How much does a bioethanol fireplace cost

It is important to bear in mind that the price of a bioethanol fireplace varies greatly according to the characteristics of the same. Lpower, materials and any accessories that characterize each model, are determining factors to express the value of a fireplace, for this reason the prices on the market are very variable. On average, therefore, the quality is directly proportional to the proposed price. It is therefore not possible to make an a priori assessment of the prices of bioethanol fireplaces, since the materials with which they are produced, the size, the capacity of the tankand the technological component, greatly influence the cost. Currently the prices on the market can start from a minimum of 500 Euros up to up to 3,500 Euros.

With regard to fuel, bioethanol is available on the market quite widely and the average amount required by the consumption of the fireplace is around 5-6 liters per 25-30 hours of use, for a total expense of about 17-20 euros for a good quality product. Soldin 1 liter bottles, the cost of bioethanol ranges from € 2.5 to € 5.00 each. Its consumption varies depending on the specific model, maximum burner capacity and flame capienza potenza power, which in turn depends on the burner.

According to an approximate consumption calculation,we could say that to heat an environment of about 20-30 square meters, with an average use of 3-4 hours per day at maximum power, about 5 liters of bioethanol per week are needed. This means that, at worst, you could get to spend around €25.00 per week.

Advantages of a bioethanol fireplace

Here are the main advantages that can favor the choice of a bioethanol burner:

+ Aesthetics: one of the main purchasing factors is definitely the aesthetic value it can give. In addition to being a device for heating the house, it is also a design piece of furniture, which enriches the environment inside which it is placed, becoming an ornamental and stylish object. In addition, the open flame is a way to generate a pleasant and intimate family atmosphere.

+ Economics:dfrom the point of view of the purchase price, there are different models, more or less expensive. However, it does not require large investments, nor does it require masonry or any other kind. Maintenance is reduced and its operation is less demanding than a traditional fireplace.

+ Cleaning:the bioethanol fireplace does not produce ash, no fumes occur and therefore no soot and both the fireplace and the surrounding environment are always very clean. In addition, there is no emanation of unpleasant odors.

+ Minimal footprint : anothergreat advantage of a bioethanol fireplace is that it does not require large spaces and there are also very small models with minimal installation. If you have little space, the solution is even more advantageous as a 5-liter tank of bioethanol clutters much less than wood intended for the traditional fireplace.

+ Homogeneous heat:heat from a bioethanol chimney is distributed evenly and progressively until it reaches a constant level in the environment, avoiding heatpeaks alternating with moments of lowering temperature.

+ Sustainable fuel:the environmental impact is minimal, bioethanol respects the environment, does not emit toxic fumes and is easy to find on the market.

+ Ease of installation:there are fireplaces that require a simpler installation and others a little more complex, but the bioethanol fireplace tends to have the advantage precisely the ease of installation and use. Composed of a few parts, depending on the model, they can be hung on the wall simply as a painting or resting on the table or on the ground.

Before you proceed with the purchase of a bioethanol fireplace, it is essential to understand its operation and grasp its main characteristics in order to be able to choose the model that is right for you and that best adapts to your needs, practical and aesthetic, as design, warmth and atmosphere will best express the style you want to give to your home, adding an extra touch of style.
